It’s been a little while since I posted a water image. We had some good rain on Sunday which provided some nice flow in the local brooks. This is one little scene from the Middle Branch of the Swift River rolling towards the Quabbin and someone’s shower or glass of water in Boston. 🙂
Heavy rains coming today so more possibilities for the weekend.
The rain headed your way is compliments of Iowa from yesterday. We are finished with it. Enjoy.

So kind of you. We had a little this morning, but the larger part is heading in this evening and through the night. Should be a nice night to sleep with the sound of golf ball sized hail rattling against the house.

You need earplugs for that. LOL

It will be worse next season after we have a metal roof installed.

Yes it will. Even fog will be deafening. 🙂

That swirling dark water looks fierce. Nice rendition of the falls. I’m glad you are getting some rain. I wish the rain here would stop for at least several weeks.

That’s just my interpretation, Yvonne. It didn’t really look very menacing except for the part where the water was chugging along. Matter of fact…it was moving so fast that when my macro lens hood fell out of the bag it took a few bounces down the hill and into the stream where it disappeared never to be seen again. It was sort of funny. After it went in I was hustling down to try to catch it when it surfaced for just a moment like a cartoon character holding up a finger then sunk back in and was gone. Blub glub…. 🙂

Gee, Steve, I’m glad that was not you that fell in the churning water Looks can be deceiving and I’m not surprised that you were unable to catch the lens hood.

That’s an appealing abstraction with a good sense of circular movement around the dark area located a third of the way down and to the right from the upper left corner.

It took several exposures to get the motion that I had visualized surrounding the turbulence.

The image also gives the impression of sepia toning, which I find attractive here.

It looks like a mud flood — although I will say our brown water never could compete with this. Ours just lazes around. With no elevation to work with, all it can do is spread.
Even if you hadn’t said so, this is clearly recognizable as water, but there’s quite a resemblance to fur, too. If you imagine a long-haired cat, that middle section begins to look like a paw with claws.

My imagination pales. 🙂 I can honestly say I would never have equated this with fur, but I have not lived with a cat in 45 years. 🙂

A fascinating combination of blurred motion and momentarily-still eddies, a perfect exposure to highlight both. The slight sepia expression adds to its mystery and appeal. As for the cat’s paw, it only takes a little imagination, once it’s nudged, and there it is! Too bad you couldn’t add a short audio clip to accompany this.

I don’t know why I didn’t think to pull out my phone and make a video of this. I guess that I can use the excuse of a precarious perch but really sometimes I just am in a zone.
