And, drum roll please…Happy Groundhog Day (or Whistle Pig if you wish). Phil did not see his shadow so if he is at least a little more successful a weather prognosticator than the pros we are due for an early spring. Of course the weather has been warmer than we usually expect for winter so that probably will contribute as well. Somewhere around here we have our own Groundhog aka a woodchuck but haven’t seen him/her since last summer. I never did get a chance to shoot him/her, only saw the evidence of him/her, nesting below our decks.
Anyway, since I don’t have a groundhog image to share, here’s one that might be seen when an early spring arrives.
When you go looking for sunrise while it is still dark you don’t always know what to expect and where to stand. The puddle didn’t light up right away but I just happened to be standing in the dirt road at the right time in the right place.
The fog, of course, is a welcome element, and that crescent of reflected sunrise adds a unique touch.

The puddle is a nice ornament to the scene, which is lovely. It reminds me of the river flats along the Genesee River when I was a kid.

The sky and fog are super, but the reflection makes this one special.

Thanks, Tom. It’s a dirt road for a hayfield tractor and baler so a good bet for more opportunities.

Sunrise in a puddle surely means there is a great day coming.

I’m especially taken with that reflection. What’s especially interesting and appealing is the shape of the puddle itself, which echoes the shape of the tree that’s reflected inside it.
As for Groundhog Day, down here we have Armadillo Day. As the Armadillo usually predicts, Texas weather is fixin’ to be 6 more weeks of a little bit of everything.

I was quite pleased with the puddle and debated where to place it but this was the best position to capture the reflection.
I’ve only seen armadillos scuttling across the ground so that’s the first one I’ve seen standing unless it’s a statue. A little bit of everything sounds good while I’m waiting for spring.

Early spring would be nice!

Sure would. Not quite spring-Iike today but after almost two months of mostly cloudy the sun is most welcome.

That really is a fascinating photo, and the puddle is such a nice addition with the tree above it. Planning ahead is one thing, but I’ll take being at the right place at the right time any day. 🙂

Puddles are wonderful things…we lived in Staten Island for a while. It’s New York’s most laughed-at borough. There’s a small zoo with a groundhog, Staten Island Chuck. One year when he was mayor, Giuliani came all the way out to Staten Island for a photo op with Chuck. He bit Giuliani. 🙂
