I have no idea if this is the same little guy I shot with the iPhone two FFs ago. They change color, hence the versicolor moniker, so that’s not a hint. At any rate, at least this one is in a tree rather than on lawn chairs. And I managed to get in the house and back with the 7D before it took “flight”.

As you can tell from the angle, I had to make these shots from below so in a few spots the camera did the thinking for me as I held it over my head. Sometimes the camera is smarter than I am.
The frog moved around a little which allowed for some different perspectives and portraits.
It checked me out for a while then launched to the ground and disappeared into the ferns. I wish I had got the toes a little sharper but this is more about personality.
These were the last shots for the week which is unusual for me as I spend time in the yard chasing insects daily. But shortly after this my throat got quite sore, a cough developed, and a fever ensued. You guessed it…Covid. So it’s been a bummer of a vacation week isolating but symptoms have all but gone away and I got a Monoclonal antibody infusion this afternoon and am told that by tomorrow I should be feeling much if not entirely better. Mary Beth got the virus also, of course, but her symptoms were much milder, disappeared almost completely overnight, and she is doing just fine. She never gets as sick as do I. Bentley doesn’t show any signs of getting it and has loved all my chair time with him.

I”m especially taken with the second photo. He looks like he’s in love with his branch. We had quite a downpour yesterday, and even though it only provide .32″ of rain, it was enough to bring out noisy little night creatures. I can’t say what they were, but I distinctly heard crickets, and what I think might have been little frogs. With luck, we’ll have more rain to make them even happier and noisier.
Despite Bentley’s delight in your presence, I hope you’re up and about soon.

.32″ is better than .0 inches so I bet more than just the froggies were happy about that. The first is more typical of the way I see them. But the two following poses made me quite happy.
Yeah, he doesn’t understand illness but on the couple of occasions I have been laid up he got quite used to my constant presence and gets a little bent out of shape…or Bentleyed out of shape…when I have the energy to do other things.

Last night, there was a yellow peeper in our kitchen! Not sure how it got in there, but glad I found it before the cat did and was able to usher it outside again. No time for photos, I just wanted it out. 🙂 Man, they can hop far for a little thing!

Thanks, Eliza! It did put a damper on things. I am in the middle of doing some repairs to our shed so that’s on hold and, of course, many lost opportunities with the camera.
Those legs are longer and stronger than they appear when hunched.

Thanks. I am pretty sure I was an early adopter before it was a known virus in late February 2020. I guess having had it plus all the shots made it a little less severe than it might have been.
Nature provides some nice camouflage for critters.

Very sorry to hear about you getting sick, I hope it clears out quickly and completely. I love these frog portraits, especially that one where it was watching you. Great personality, indeed. A week or so ago I found one of these on my railing when I got home. And my father filmed one through their glass door as it jumped at and ate a nice sized insect.

Ordinarily they just sit there all squinty-eyed but this one seemed at least aware if not interested in me. Eye contact does add some personality and I was quite happy to capture it here. Just wish it was a slight bit closer to eye level.

Thanks, Ann. I loved that shot and so much so that I was willing to let the world see that I missed the toes. 🙂 Almost completely recovered. I had a monoclonal antibody transfusion Friday afternoon and that helped a lot but I was already close to recovery. It’s a free treatment so I figured made sense to take advantage and at least enjoy the last few days of freedom from the workday.

I got out this morning and felt mostly fine, thanks! The last shot made the shoot for me. Well, honestly I was doing shed repairs and ran in for the 7D when I saw the frog so not really a “shoot”. Much better way to spend my time, I think. 🙂 Thanks,Donna!

Thanks, Donna! We no longer feed birds because of wandering bears seeing them as an easy lunch. But when we did I put 8″ decorated stove pipe around the pole and a dome on top. There’s not a squirrel in the world…I hope…that can wrap its arms around 8″ stove pipe.

I used two 2′ lengths of stove pipe and an ordinary pole dome. Worked great.

Mr. or Mrs. Frog does indeed express a lot of personality (frogality) in your photos, especially the last one. The first one is proof of the amazing power of camouflage.

They are masters of camouflage and I am sometimes shocked when I am able to discern one where a moment earlier I could not. Of course, once it moves all bets are off. I like that…frogality. I just added it to Windows’ dictionary. 🙂
