By the side of the road along Route 202 in Pelham is a nice lookout over the Quabbin Reservoir that attracts a fair number of commuters each morning. A few photographers stop there as well. I’ve posted several shots from this spot previously including this one a while back. I put it through Lightroom’s new workflow with a few masks to enhance contrasts in places, especially the fogbank. Just slight tweaks.
Of course, besides being from 2014, the landscape doesn’t look like this currently. Called by some “stick season” because of all the bare trees, it’s nice to enjoy the archives and reprocess a few to see what improvement might be made.
I am off from work tomorrow hoping to rely on Bentley’s usual 1:30 a.m. nature call to get me out in the yard for the eclipse.
Compared to the version at
the reprocessed one is more vibrant and appeals to me more.

I hope your skies are clearer than the skies in this beautiful image…and should be, fog being a morning phenom. We had a cold front move through this morning, so I’m hoping for clear, calm skies, if I can pull myself out of bed…no Bentley, you see.

Thanks, Bob. We had a little rain and some clouds move in but that cleared up around 2 a.m. just after Bentley and I went out for his business. By 5 most of the heavy clouds were gone but there still remained faint moisture in the air that interfered with the capture. Turned out better than I thought as you saw already. A dog that needs to go out in the middle of the night is a mixed blessing, I guess. Most often no blessing at all.

Generally, I prefer this image, but that band of bright yellow at the top is just too much for me. Cropped just above the top of the clouds, it appeals to me more, especially that glorious foliage.

A crop would work so I appreciate your critique. The clouds and foliage are the subjects so losing some sky wouldn’t be an issue.

You know how much I enjoy your photos, so I figure an occasional “Uh…hmm…” will be ok!

Your “Uh…hmm”s are always welcomed, Linda. We all have different vision and anything that can be added by critique is a good thing. Keep ’em coming.

Beautiful image, Steve. Good luck with the photo shoot of the eclipse. I think I’ll be sleeping through it though. 😉

Thanks, Eliza! With Bentley there is not much chance of my sleeping through much of anything. 🙂

Beautiful, Steve! We had a partial eclipse here this morning, but I found out after the event. Good luck with your shoot!

Thanks, Pete! Too bad about the late notice. Maybe the next one like it in 500 years. 🙂

Fabulous colours Steve! We’re not quite at ‘stick season’ here yet and there’s a bit more colour in the leaves than usual for us, so a chance for photos… 🙂

Thank you, Ann! We still have a few lingering pockets of color. Some larches and beeches mostly.
