I love the contrast of the radiant foliage with the slate sky in the background–and the middle layer of the lighter wave-clouds provides the visual icing.

When I saw those fingers of fog, I thought, “Something wicked this way comes…” The foliage is beautiful, but be careful. There could be some witches in those woods, brewing up winter winds.

    • Yes, careful indeed. As I am sure you know from my previous Quabbin posts, this area used to be four towns which were taken for the reservoir and residents relocated, most against their will. I imagine more than a few restless spirits may be wandering the land.

My goodness, what a sky! Those cool clouds look like icy flames licking the top of the trees, ready to turn them into winter sculptures.

  5. Did you consider cropping up from the bottom to just above the light-colored bush in the foreground? The bush intermittently pulled my glance down toward it.

That’s my kind of New England fall image – a bit of moodiness, great color, and nothing saccharine about it.
