As always, today brings anticipation of what’s to come…if our drought hasn’t ruined it.
About Steve Gingold
I am a Nature Photographer with interests in all things related. Water, flowers, insects and fungi are my main interests but I am happy to photograph wildlife and landscapes and all other of Nature's subjects.
Ah, what sweet autumnal serenity. I’m missing that very much as we hesitantly advance into spring here.

While I am looking forward to foliage season, should it happen despite the dry conditions here, I would be happy to be headed back into Spring as well. Autumn is a lovely time of year but is followed but barrenness while Spring leads to Summer and burgeoning life.

All true. I can feel things relaxing and awakening day by day, and I stopped wearing the thermals just a few days ago. I start each day with a flannel shirt, but I’m finding it comfortable to work outside with just a (fleece) T-shirt in the afternoon. Bring it on!

So far it is sort of the same here, warm clothing in the morning and peeling off the layers as the day moves on.

At first I thought this is how things are already beginning to look there, but then I figured you pulled a fall picture from your archives to celebrate what the fall equinox promises.

I thought “what’s to come” would give away the archival source for this. We still have a few weeks before the color really starts rockin’. This scene is mid-October usually.

IKR? Fire warning is not an auspicious start to fall. We really need a good rain. Nice shot, Steve.

Thanks, Eliza. IKR=”I know Right”? Until we get rain, and a goodly amount of it, we will be at risk of fire every day, but especially the windy ones. Let’s hope for no fires.

Yes, you got it– let’s hope no one drops a cigarette butt. Another good thing about the reduction in smokers, less risk.

It’s funny. With as crazy as everything’s been with the news and all else going on – it didn’t even register to me that today is the start of Autumn until I saw the email notification of your post come up. Then I was like “Oh yeah – it’s that late in Sept already!” 🙂 🙂 Wishing you a great season of image-making Steve!

It has sort of sneaked up on me too, Mark. Especially the chilly part. 🙂 Thanks. I hope you have a great foliage season there too.

Is it true that maples are in trouble? I saw that in a headline today. Hard to believe because they are basically weeds here.

I am not aware of any serious trouble. A drought will affect their color and how quickly a leaf releases from the tree.

I figured it was not true.

I love autumnal colors, but sometimes they’re even more attractive when combined with still-green foliage. It’s a lovely, peaceful image.

I like the combination as well. I won’t pass up a wildly red and yellow scene, but a little green mixed in makes for a nice contrast and a pleasing palette. Thanks.

I hadn’t really given much thought yet to the coming colors, but it certainly is something to look forward to. I love this photo, such a beautiful arrangement of color and the reflection is fantastic.

I try to visit this reservoir annually because of the layout and the generally calm water. Rarely is it brightly lit with the sun behind here so the colors are a bit subdued although still bright. Thanks. Yeah, Autumn is sneaking up on us. There are a few maples starting to hint at turning.

Thanks, Tanja! I will be looking forward to some Colorado color as the fall moves along. 🙂

The predictions for Colorado’s fall foliage are not promising, Steve. After a summer of heat, drought, wind, and wild fires, the aspen (if they are still alive) might be too shocked to do their usual thing. 😢

We are fortunate to not have fires here, so far, but everything else you mention is the case and I am also worried our foliage will not live up to its billing. I have reserved my usual October vacation week but am just hoping it won’t end up being a honeydo week.

So much is up in the air right now, Steve. I hope you will have an enjoyable vacation nonetheless.

Thank you, Tanja. If I do, and I expect to, you’ll see the evidence here. 🙂

Elegant image, Steve! Love that reflection.

Thanks, Ellen. The reflection is what makes this a special location for me. I shoot the same spot in the spring if the mountain laurel are flowering.

This is a “statement photograph” whatever that is. I mean, it’s so good to look at, there is so much to like…Ellen said it above, it’s elegant. I love it. Happy Equinox to you as well, just a bit late.

Thanks! I am not sure what the means exactly either. I’d guess there can be multiple ways of taking it…all good I think. 🙂

Yes. I’m talking about making a statement by presenting something beautiful and striking, not by acting the way one or two people did last night on TV. 😉

I did not watch having a good sense, and the good sense, knowing what it would be like. It did not presage good times ahead.
