I am a Nature Photographer with interests in all things related. Water, flowers, insects and fungi are my main interests but I am happy to photograph wildlife and landscapes and all other of Nature's subjects.
Some prefer one and some the other. I am happy either way. In the monochrome the emphasis is on the clouds. In the color it’s the subtlety of a quiet dawn.
My first impulse was to stress the quality of the clouds and that moody feel you mention. But I also liked the quiet beauty of a subtle dawn. Either one satisfies me and I am happy folks find something to like in them. Thanks.
You didn’t even ask but seeing these together, one is prompted to decide which one likes more. The B&W has more drama in the clouds, the color has the subtlety of all those shades and tones. Both.
I figured folks would know to choose…or not. π Each has its own appeal which is why I processed two ways. I usually go with one format but this worked either way, I thought. Glad that you agree. Thanks, Lynn.

Chantilly Lace? π Before I saw that you had commented with a link, I was going to make the same link. Guess I do know what you like.

I prefer the B&W because of the contrast it creates in the clouds to mimic the contrast in the mountains.

My first intent was to make a B&W for the same reason, but as mentioned above, I know what Linda likes. π

Relaxing!!! I’d have to pull my lawn chair out of the truck and just enjoy for a while!

Nice shot, Steveβ both have merit, but I’m partial to the lavender tones in the color version.

Thanks, Eliza. At first I was all in on Black and White but liked the subtlety of the light and color too.

I’m with Eliza on this: The color version has a softer and more subdued effect, like a dark watercolor.

That’s a remarkable contrast, Steve. Even if the second photo doesn’t have much color, the black-and-white still is more moody.
