Well, it didn’t add up to much, but we finally did get some rain last night. The foreguess is that more is on the way later this afternoon and the following three days. I’ll believe it when I see it. The Holyoke Mountain Range runs east to west and that configuration often acts as a shunt, pushing weather north or south of us. That has been the weather pattern here in both summer and winter for the last few years. We get to listen to the thunder and watch the lightning as it happens in either direction. Last night the bulk of the rain stayed south of the mountains so we’ll see what transpires later on.
Yesterday, in an effort to guarantee that we got some rain, I ran my car through the car wash, hung out some laundry, and fired up the grill. Just as I was about to lay the meat on the fire the rain started. Not so much that I got wet and later, after I closed the grill, I noticed some interesting puddles atop the stainless steel and got out the camera and tripod for a few exposures. Here’s the proof.
Once again, Photobomb Steve got a few selfies in.
I opted for the 100 macro as I had to stand atop a cooler so I could look down on the grill cover and at that I was almost too close to the drops to get a sharp focus. The 180 would have required an eight foot ladder.
I’ve seen many droplet photos – maybe too many – but in this case the stainless steel really makes it.

I was concerned, although I would share my effort anyway, that this was a bit copycatish. If you look closely the polishing scratches are magnified in the puddles.

Yes. That’s part of what makes it so interesting. It’s the juxtaposition of the smoothness of the droplets and the texture of the stainless steel.

Ah, great minds, and all that: I have an abstract photo scheduled for next month showing drops that boiling water in a pot caused to collect on the inside of the lid. However, in my picture there’s no photobombing.

Photobombing might have been an even more sweaty proposition. The idea that I might plan a month ahead is quite foreign to me. A day ahead is doing well.

I took the picture in February and planned to show it by March but so many nature pictures came my way this spring that I kept bumping that post, which isn’t tied to any particular date or even season.

Your local Massachusetts weather sounds like our local Colorado weather, Steve. You are without blame, but I haven’t done my due diligence. High time I washed the car and fired up the grill! 🙂

I hope that worked for you, Tanja. It took a while but we got a nice downpour today. ☂️

…so far, it hasn’t, Steve. I even washed all the windows in the house! 😊

We’ve had some pretty good showers the last couple of days, yesterday afternoon included thunder and local lightning strikes, but our water level is still low. Hope you get something significant soon.

Good for you, Steve. Here, the windows are still clean. Our next chance is for July 4, and I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I’ll be hoping that you report back with a story of showers, Tanja. 🙂

Lotsa selfies! 😉
While we haven’t had inches, it’s good to get some rain, the lawn looks rather dire!

Too many of me…one is probably too many for some. 🙂
Bet you got a bit more this afternoon. 🙂

Oh, yes, a nice deluge – very happy about that!

Ours started out nice and easy then got rough. (Sounds like a Tina Turner song) So maybe it soaked in after the gentle showers softened things up.

If you had used your 180 (and the 8-foot ladder), we’d be hard put to acknowledge your claim to having managed to shoot yourself “a few”–I’d say, more likely a few dozens of–times. As it is, we’ll accept it; at least it wasn’t in the foot–this time.

I do often figuratively shoot myself in the foot photographically. I think I would have liked the image better sans Steve but the ones without me were not as pleasing.

So funny! I’m sorry the rain hasn’t been more cooperative but good for you for making lemonade with it.

Thanks for noticing the pun. 🙂 Since this post we have more than made up for the previous lack of rain, three days in a row, and more to come today. I might even be able to photograph some water. 🙂

It does seem that weather patterns are tending to be more extreme – we might get the same amount of rain, measured over a longer period of time, but it comes in big splats instead of even doses. 🙂

We’ve had some rain pretty much every day now for the past week or so. A few days were rough with thunder and lightning and some areas had some serious tree damage. It is raining now as well although gently.

Not people’s favorite summer weather! I remember times like that in NY-NJ. I hope it clears just enough for you to get out.

It is just about done for a few days…if we can believe the forecasters. I am hoping for some fog in the morning.
