01.06.2020 One more WOW moment

So I, as I often do, found one more and I don’t know how I forgot it.  This is most likely (how I should always phrase it) the last from New Year’s Day. I did isolate a few sections of the whole backlit sunrise iced trees landscape and this, I think, is my favorite.

  1. It looks like a forest fire is raging behind those trees. Wow indeed.

This is my absolute favorite of these images. It does bring to mind the contrast between fire and ice, and the suggestion that the two might coexist in some unimaginable world is so unexpected, it only adds to the power of the photograph. For me, this one feels more solid, and easier to enter into. The sky makes a difference, for sure, and the way you’ve let the tops of the branches just touch the line of clouds is perfect.

    • The proximity to the clouds was just good fortune as there wasn’t a lot of room for me to move around to change perspective. As this all developed I worked my way through compositions and this was the final view. It’s my favorite also although I am happy with all. There are a couple of others but I haven’t worked them yet and I don’t think any of them approach this. Thanks for the critique, Linda.

Love how the red is creeping through from behind the big trees – a reminder of how ephemeral the ice on the landscape is. A beautiful moment! 🙂
