Hehe! An egret that’s lost for words?

  2. Come to think of it, every egret I’ve ever come upon has been wordless.

Nice image. I quite like the contrast between the smooth white egret and the multicolored textured background.

The colors of the leaves are fascinating. I wouldn’t have expected such variety, or the way some of them curl up above the water. The flowers to the left of the egret look as though they might be pink. Do the pink lilies have differently colored leaves?

    • I don’t think so, Linda. The pink water-lilies I photograph are the same species as the white. It’s hard to say as they often exhibit color when buds that change to white once opened. I am pretty sure the pads are curled and flipped because the water level is quite low, so the stems are long enough to allow floating when the water is high and now are just flopping around. Some of the color may be affected by the light which was much dimmer than the capture. I was actually lucky to get this shot. The egret and a pal were flying around over the pond and this one landed for just a few moments. I walked the length of the pond along the highway (just a small two-laner) and managed this one shot while peering through some cattails before it took off again.

  5. Very nice pic of the egret. I love these stately birds and when I was an active birder I remember seeing my fair share of them on field trips in the spring and summer.
