in my fingers and toes. As cold as this looks, it wasn’t that bad on Sunday when I made this and the last two images. It is much colder today with a low wind chill as a result of the strong winds we are receiving. WMass isn’t getting nearly the predicted snowfall, but the eastern part of the state and up the coast line are. Drifting is our real problem. There are some power outage out east, but so far none here.
This is the same spot as yesterday’s post, but focusing more on the icicles although the water’s motion is still center stage.

I like those wispy water tendrils in the lower right. There is a lot of water mass suspended over the stream.
My brother posted a short video at his house on the Maine coast. Heavy snow and very strong winds. His two feet of snow will drift a lot. They are glad to be retired and can stay home.

It was nice staying home today, although I am only partially retired. Fully would be even better. It gave me time to deal with the snow at my leisure. Only about 10″ but the wind is howling more now than earlier and I think a lot of what I removed will be back by tomorrow morning.

10″ with howling wind is never a good thing here in the midwest. There are too many flat open areas with nothing to stop the wind or snow.

This is lovely. I like how there is snow on the bottom, so you can really see how the water is flowing through it. Those icicles are wonderful.

Yup. The media goes for the most alarming headline. It turned out to be a bit overblown for Western New England, but not for the eastern part and coastline. I’ve often wished we lived at the coast, but today I am happy to be right here.
I am enjoying the snow/icicle combination more than I expected, Melissa. I was bemoaning that the flat surfaces were covered and I have not been able to go for the abstracts I was seeking, but so far it has worked out. I guess March might offer more abstracts. Thanks!

I do prefer yesterday’s view, but that certainly isn’t to take away from this one. What surprises me are the differences from one image to the next. Clearly, winter isn’t “just winter.” It has as much variety as any season. No ice here — our water temp’s back into the mid-50s. It’s warmed almost ten degrees since mid-December.

Oh yeah, winter can be quite varied. When non-northern folks think of winter it is mostly blizzards and whiteouts. But there is so much more than cold, although not much without it. We had a while there when it was warmish, not quite like you are having now, but that left us with mostly mud and a landscape filled with sticks.

Thanks, Andrew. Wider but closer. I enjoy capturing the water’s motion most of the time with my stream shots. It just wouldn’t be the same with choppy water although I do like to have a few with the water doing a little leap over a rock. It takes a little experimentation to find the right balance as the motion varies from spot to spot and day to day.
