I couldn’t see the moon when leaving the house this morning so wasn’t planning to have it in a landscape. I was heading to the location often visited nearby and turning the corner I saw the crescent hanging at a nice elevation floating over the trees and the rising sun was just warming the sky.
Nice Steve! Really like the moon in it, added a lot to the overall scene!

Thanks, Reed. The moon does really top things off…so to speak.

Do I detect a bit of earthshine on the moon?

Nope. I wasn’t wearing a hat so that is bald glare.

Great answer! If you were a Calvinist it would be especially appropriate, as the name Calvin meant literally ‘little bald one.’

Does being a Calvin and Hobbesist count?

Sure. Calvin hobnobs with the other guy.

The colors would’ve been enough but now you have a sliver of a moon.

I was happier with the sliver than if it had been full. At first I was disappointed at no clouds but then…the moon won me over. Thank you.

I, too, often prefer a sliver.

It’s a lovely, peaceful image. Is that frost on the ground? It seems to have picked up the color of the sky.

Yes, it was frosty and where there were puddles there was ice. But the puddles were muddy and I didn’t feel compelled to photograph them. Part of the reflected color is enhanced by the dim light. This is a three part HDR and the brightest showed the frost a bit whiter.

How fortunate you are to be able to be out and about so freely and so frequently, Our PM today announced a decision to lower our status from Level 4 to 3 next week, but any non-essential travel will still not be tolerated. A very nice reward for your pre-dawn drive.

Yes, I am fortunate. If our governor asked I would stay at home but he has encouraged responsible outdoor activities and my early hours make that all the more doable. Your PM is wonderful, even if the order is inconvenient, and I wish I could say the same for the guy running things nationally here. We are lucky to have a sensible governor in MA.

I recognize that location – what a beauty that moon is. Crescent moons have an indescribable grace, don’t they? Beautiful image!

Yes, it’s a habit, isn’t it? 🙂 They do and an added benefit is the sidelighting they receive which offers crisper detail…although that hardly shows in this image.
