The first time I noticed this as I drove down a road past it I was very thankful for good peripheral vision. That corner of my eye has afforded me some nice visits here. Thanks, Melody!

This is especially pretty, and interesting because of the almost-rainbow effect in the woods. Was there enough mist to create a glory, or other atmospheric phenomenon? I was driving through some fog last weekend, and experienced only the second fog bow I’ve seen. Rainbows are nice, but I think I prefer the more diffuse colors; they certainly complement your image.

Thanks, Linda! I’ve never been fortunate enough to see or capture a fogbow. There was plenty of mist but what you see is what I got. I like the softness of this image and think that a fogbow would have been nice but also would have dominated the image.

I don’t know. What I’ve seen was quite diffuse. It was unmistakable, but not nearly as vibrant or distinct as a rainbow. In any event, the colors here are much like fogbow colors.

Nicely done. Beautiful setting, well captured, and with that extra little something (fog, but not enough to kill the colors), it’s a wall hanger.

Thanks, Sam. A little autumn color remained of oak leaves on the hill. Not sure what supplied it to the water, possibly oak tannins.

Thanks, Peter. Shooting in woods often dictates longer exposures unless I want to up the ISO and risk noise. Fortunately I like the long exposure softness in the water.

This is an example of my happiest of happy places, Linda. The sound of a waterfall and the atmosphere of fog in a wooded setting. Not much better. Thanks!

Excellent photograph of an idyllic scene. Nicely framed by the two trees near the top of the falls.
I’m afraid I might become so relaxed there that I would fall asleep to the sound of the cascading water.

That would provide some nice dreams, I think. Thanks for noting the placement of the trees. I debated more or less of the large rock on the left but liked the small cascade below as it was so ended with this composition. Thank you, Sir!

This spot is another realm, Lynn. 🙂 One reason I enjoy photograph moving water is the separation from the day to day reality the sound offers. Not much traffic here, but others I visit do drown out most of civilization’s sound. Thanks!

I can imagine that. I often think about the sound, the scent sometimes, the feeling in the air, even the space around us, whether it’s wide-open or sheltered – all are things that affect us as we make photographs. Sometimes I get home and see that the visual record or impression didn’t come close to the whole experience. The photo above is not one of those times – it conveys all those extra sensations even though we can’t say exactly what they were.
