  2. Green ice seems a rarity. Is it common up there?

    • The algae which requires nitrogen develops from rotting leaves in this seep is the source of the color. That’s where the green came from in the frost pictures that I have shared in the past. Possibly what encouraged the algae in your shot.

    The contrasting colors are wonderful, and I like the way the speckles on the leaf echo the bubbles in the water.

    For me, I love this type image as it demonstrates the photographer has a special gift of observation.

    It doesn’t hurt that the final product is technically astounding.
