About Steve Gingold
I am a Nature Photographer with interests in all things related. Water, flowers, insects and fungi are my main interests but I am happy to photograph wildlife and landscapes and all other of Nature's subjects.
I thought mushroom gills but the image is unsettling for me. I usually don’t feel that way when seeing your photographs. The stems did it.

Sorry this makes you uncomfortable, Sue. No stems here, just the edges of the caps but they do seem a bit like some writhing creature’s tentacles, I guess. I did not see them that way and only the shapes and textures were what I tried to express in the photograph.

My first impression upon seeing the top of the image first was of an elephant’s trunk.

You are consistent. The is the second iteration of the mushroom group and you said the same for the first.

Yeah, an elephant never forgets.

For some reason, this image made me uncomfortable. I finally decided it was because of its resemblance to intestines, or some sort of strange creature. I was glad to read it’s a mushroom!

If you’ve ever had a piece or two of Kishka then you definitely would see intestines in this. I had it a lot as a child during Jewish holidays but always filled with kasha and not meat. Of course the same is true for most varieties of sausage.
Sue above had a similar reaction. Maybe we can combine the two into a mushroom stuffed sausage.
I made this image awhile back. At that time I made a slightly different version, a different composition, and you said it reminded you of making sausage with your grandmother.

I had no idea what it could be, glad it was a mushroom! 😁

It never occured to me that it could be some scary monster but with others seeing it as something like that I now see it too. Yeah, better it’s a mushroom. 🙂

Love the abstract nature of this photograph – it’s very mysterious!

Thanks, Ann! Most folks are not sure what it is so mysterious indeed. 🙂

Apparently, I have little artistic imagination. My first thought on viewing was along the lines of butter, garlic and shallots.
Wonderful macrophotography! If I made New Years’ resolutions, one would be to gain expertise in the macro field. You continue to inspire.

Butter, garlic and shallots may not have been my first thought but has crowded most others out at the moment, Wally. They with some fresh oyster mushrooms would certainly make a nice side dish.
I would like to see some macro work from you to go along with the excellent wildlife shots you share. This was in a light box with the 180 but I also have a Laowa specialized close up for greater than 1:1 that really allows for very close abstract work. Not too expensive either.

Brings back memories of those famous peppers. It really is amazing some of the abstracts that are possible with food or other everyday objects.

Channeling my inner Weston. 🙂 Years ago I saw a movie, “The Four Seasons” with a character who was obsessed with photographing vegetables.
