A more subdued foggy landscape than what was shared yesterday, this is one of a series of shots over Quabbin Valley from the New Salem Overlook along U.S. Route 202.
Shot just a few minutes after this previous post from October 16. North Quabbin is often filled with fog and provides so many nice landscape views from the elevated position. One of these days the town will cut back the brush and trees at the rim of the lookout and I’ll try for a panorama some foggy morning.
Beautiful composition, Steve!

Fogs of a feather settle together.

The trees do have a feathery appearance lurking in the fog.

I’ve always enjoyed your foggy photos, and this is another great one. Very simple. Very subtle. A bit moody. Fantastic.

Thanks, Todd! What’s enjoyable with these scenes is that often the fog is moving like waves so no two exposures are exactly the same. In this case the trees were constantly disappearing and reappearing. I chose the one I thought had the most interest.

Recently I came across this, from E.L. Doctorow. It certainly pairs well with your image: “Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.”

Or in my case, driving in the morning in fog. Most people would find that daunting and scary but those conditions excite me and I always anticipate some good photography conditions.
Funny how we say “in the morning” and “at night”.

Having seen so many frog posts on your site, I am not surprised having misread your title initially as frog Friday.

I actually had to remove the ‘r’ as I did the same thing.

Great shot, but I don’t much like the idea of you driving in that, Steve!

Thanks, Susan.
Sometimes driving in the fog can be a bit unsettling. In this instance the fog was in the lower elevations so the road was pretty clear. There’s a back road I take on the way to Quabbin Park and one day the fog was so thick that when I approached a hill I thought I was going to go airborne not seeing what was ahead. Fortunately I know the road well so didn’t freak.
