11.01.2022 Just the right slant of light

Most of our color has faded but the oaks in the distance and warm light of the rising sun breaking through a gap in the overcast showed a bit of the beauty that remains in Shutesbury and New Salem seen from Enfield Lookout in Quabbin Park.

Whenever I see the phrase “slant of light” – I think of Emily Dickinson. I don’t know if her wording influenced your use or not?

The dulled color allows the dark sky and dark water to pair beautifully. I especially like the bit of fog sandwiched between.

Your wonderful photograph is reminiscent of the Hudson River school of American landscape painters.

That “slant of light” certainly evokes a mood (for me) of a crisp, cool morning where I’d be reaching for my coffee thermos.

    Lovely, Steve.

That’s a great view and I love how the dark clouds and foreground trees almost create a window we look through to see the distant shore and that bit of fog.

    • Serendipity. I hadn’t expected that and the direction is not the one I usually photograph from this spot. It is where I often shoot Mount Monadnock which of course would most often be the main attraction. Not on this day.
