10.20.2022 Similar but different

Last year at this time I visited the property of the new headquarters of the Kestrel Land Trust here in Amherst. There was a nice mix of colors and light.  This image was made shortly after last year’s post as the sun rose higher and the light grew stronger. It’s a slightly different composition as well.

I haven’t visited here this year and should take a look again but by Saturday I think the foliage will have faded.  Or not.

I’ve noticed the effects of last night’s frost are bringing a lot of leaves down… it was a glorious peak while it lasted!

    • Of course this is not from this year’s crop of foliage but is indicative of the beauty we did see. Considering the stress the summer affected on all plants it was a pleasant surprise to see the level of color this autumn.

Reds can be dramatic, but this shading of yellow into orange (or vice-versa) is especially nice.

This photo is absolutely stunning. It’s not just the colors, reflections and light, but also all that great shadow detail along the shoreline.
