I visited Harvard Pond yesterday hoping for foliage. There was a bit but just wasn’t appealing. The pond was created by a dam and below the dam is an outflow pond which offered some better color and a nicer composition.
Harvard Pond outflow.
The sky could have been better but that’s the kind of day it was, mostly cloudy. By this weekend I think things will be hopping and hopefully the rain we had will keep the leaves on the trees for a little while.
Beautiful hints of what’s hopefully to come. But even if it doesn’t this was well worth seeing and photographing.

Thanks, Todd. It seems we will be having a nice round of color this year. Whether it will last or be fleeting is up for debate. Some years we still have some nice foliage to enjoy into November.

Love those red maples! It seems like it is going to be a good year for foliage.

It does seem so. The drought had me worried but all that rain I think saved the season. We’re still low on our water budget but what we got seemed to do the trick.

I’m glad you found some good red fall foliage already.

I drove to a few places and saw little but the pond provided.

It looks like fall is on its way. We can tell because our temps are down to the high 80s. If our leaves do turn, it isn’t until nearly December.

We’re pretty excited that Thursday and Friday will bring a return of the 70’s before falling back into cooler temps. It’s too bad you have to wait so long but then you don’t have to wait as long as we do for spring to arrive.

Nice Steve! Like the red foliage going to the green foliage on the right! Showing Fall is coming!

Thanks, Denise. It’s often a second choice to the larger pond but on this day it was where it was happening.

It’s building nice and slow…so far. Once it gets cooler things will speed up.

What a beautiful image! Today, I read no red for us: like the soup Nazi, it seems nature is going to deny us a colorful fall this year. But predictions are just that. If we only get brown and dry, I’ll just enjoy scenes from your part of the world.

Thanks, Linda!
I guess you have a foliage nazi this year. Maybe he’ll go on vacation and you’ll get some after all. I’ll do my best to offer a little vicarious autumn.

Your wishes for a better sky and more foliage are so familiar. I return from the field and say equivalent things as I review the day’s images. Some of us are never satisfied!
Some of us – me – would have been ecstatic to encounter the scene you photographed! Our Florida “brown season” is right around the corner.
Thank you, Steve, for sharing a bit of color.

I try to be happy with what Nature offers but there are times when I wish it was a bit more generous with the light. This summer saw more cloudy mornings than not which made me a little less enthusiastic about early risings of my own. But I was quite happy to find this color and light despite the less desirable offerings elsewhere. I think you follow Adam Gibbs on YouTube as I do and he is constantly complaining about the light. That puts us in good company.
Pretty soon we will be entering brown season here or, as some including me call it, stick season. It’s just a bit more challenging to find interesting subjects.

Seems like fall color is slow out of the gates this year, we’re just starting to see hints. Nice that you’ve found a spot, I bet you’ll have some more goodies moving forward.

We were unsure about foliage this year with the drought and hot weather but there was a rain deluge during September and now we are having a stellar year. Ordinarily I would be on vacation this week for foliage photography but had to take the last week of the month to be here while we get replacement windows installed. Still I am having a few four day weekends which allow me to do a little photography along with my usual autumn chores.
