The cabbage white seems yellow.

Yes. They sometimes do have some yellow or cream colored. I am surprised you haven’t seen that on your Texas ones. It’s fairly common just like white water-lilies are sometimes pink.

I have the same impression as Steve S.

Very nice … I like the composition and the deep purple/pale yellow color combination.

Thanks, Denise. It was all the Cabbage White’s idea. 🙂

One of the books I use for butterfly identification puts Whites and Sulphurs into the same chapter. I thumbed through it, and was interested to see some photos of species like the Great Southern White that have this same distinctly yellow tinge.

They are in the same Family…the Pieridae. I looked at Great Southern White and found this perfect example.

That’s the way some Cabbage Whites look! I haven’t seen any New England aster blooming yet, but it’s pretty dry here. Great combination.

Pretty dry here too, Tom. Until this morning that is. Pouring as I write this. More to come later this morning. We have two N.E. Asters in the yard and they are blooming profusely right now. Thanks.

It’s raining here as well. I’ve have to check my local spots for NE aster soon.

Very nice photograph of an uncommonly pretty common butterfly!
Now, if I can just get a shot of them with open wings, I’ll be a happy camper.

Common is a qualified term. These are beauties. Thanks! I sorta did earlier this summer. Caution PG-13.
