While walking along the Norwottuck Rail Trail on the 4th of July I spotted this little Green Frog enjoying the sunny morning.
Green Frog-Lithobates clamitans fma Rana clamitans male.
It’s a pretty easy life for a frog, just lazing around in the swamp waiting for a fly to come by or a potential mate to heed your croak. And hoping heron doesn’t make a meal of you.
I’m afraid specialy the last one….
Great pictures of this frog.
Have a nice weekend Steve.

You noted that the genus for this critter used to be Rana. That was the Latin word for ‘frog’ and is still the word in Spanish and Italian.

I’d wager it is still the Latin word for frog although no one uses Latin any longer.

The greens of the lily pads and of the frog complement one another nicely. I’m still hoping to find a frog this year, but we may need more rain before they decide to make themselves visible. I’m curious about ‘fma.’ I get that the genus changed, but I’m not sure what the initialism means. I couldn’t find a meaning for it online that came close to what you probably meant.

Formerly known as. Maybe I should have said “nee”.
A little or a lot of rain I am sure would make everyone there happier. Frogs and people alike. 🐸

Thanks, Eliza. You know that time goes by faster when we’re older so even though it’s a week of vacation it’ll fly by. One of these days I’ll get to be on permanent vacation. 😀

It is a little tricky finding them but those bulging eyes usually give them away. And the herons and egrets have no trouble seeing them. 🙂 Thanks, Tina!

By now, the frogs must know you well enough to let you come close and take those fabulous photos.
