This little Gray Tree Frog hiding in our lawn chairs must be waiting for the pickanick to start. Maybe hoping for flies on the grill.

Whoopsie. Don’t know where my mind was but I corrected the ID. Not a peeper.

Just look at those gorgeous markings! I love how these little cuties can change their appearance. Your photo is so crisp I can see the suction cups on the toes! 🙂

The iPhone is a remarkable device. Of course I was very close so that helped.

He does and as I edited above, it’s a gray tree frog, which is often green, and not a peeper as the email notification indicated.

This little frog is well camouflaged. Most people would not even see it.

I did not immediately recognize it as a frog, Peter. I thought it was some rotted wood at first.

It is and in a senior moment I mis-ID’d it. Gray Tree Frog it is.

It almost doesn’t look real. It reminds me of some of the fanciful ceramic frogs that show up in gift shops.

Well,it’s not a real Spring Peeper. I misidentified it as such but it’s a gray tree frog which is sometimes greenish. I shot it with the iPhone so some of the detail is not quite as crisp as with the 7D or 5D which may account for the porcelain look.

I don’t think it’s that — it looks like the sponge technique that some craftspeople use.

The frog was still on the chair but in a different spot and this time I was able to shoot with the 7D so may post a less blotchy image that will look more froggish.

“Flies on the grill”…that’s hilarious, Steve! Lovely photo, so intimately close-up; and I always love seeing their suction pad toes.

Well, as anyone who barbecues will tell you, flies do love a good cookout and if they get to close to the grill…frog food. It’s a tree frog and not a peeper but both have those nice pads. Thanks for commenting, Jet. Have a lovely weekend.

In many places insects are quite a delicacy. I was just reading a post in an Entomology group on Facebook about how many people in Japan regularly eat them. Not sure if they are grilled or not. 🙂

Argh! That’s a ‘no thanks!’ from me…even if they’re grilled!

The green merging into blue is a nice touch.
