Not exactly a return as this is not the same plant that I posted back in 2016. I found this about 50 yards from that one but in the same location in Shutesbury.
As you can see in the comparison to the linked post, this is another example of how varied these can be. Here the flower is more a pinwheel layout and the leaves much brighter than the previous find.
I hope you don’t get bored with Painted Trilliums-Trillium undulatum. I have at least one more to share. I do get a little carried away with them every spring.
Beautiful Nice post
Thanks

Show as many a painted trillium as you will-ium.
Do you have a sense of what percent are quads?

I do like to mix things up but will share at least the one more I mentioned. As long as I can find different ways of showing them I’ll keep it going. I really don’t know what the percentage might be.Although generally in threes, GoBotany says three or more so there are others on record.

They are a lovely flower, you seemed to have stumbled upon a mutant strain. I saw several regular ones on my walk yesterday.

This seems a good year for them. At this location I saw several dozen which is the most so far. I’ve read that there is a bacteria which can cause anomalies in this species. But then bacteria can do that to us too. 🙂

I find trilliums such a treat, and can fully understand why this quadrillium would be such a thrill, Steve. How wonderful that you have found more than one now.

I had hoped to find one but was surprised it was a bit far removed from the first. Figured it would be the same one. It’s hard to pick a single favorite flower among so many lovely species but this is certainly among those at the top. Thanks, Jet!

It’s great finding things you’re passionate enough about to risk getting carried away. I can’t speak for anyone but myself, but I’m nowhere near bored yet, so keep them coming. 🙂

I would do it anyway but thankfully most folks are happy to see them. Thanks, Todd!

This seems almost like finding a four-leaf clover. Good luck obviously followed immediately as the resulting photograph is spectacular!
I was trying to determine how many images of Trilliums would be “too many” but I have never been good at advanced mathematics. Your fans will have to let you know when enough is enough, but I wouldn’t hold your breath.

Almost. I have never found a four-leaf clover and found this twice. Of course I have probably spent a lot more time looking at trilliums than clover leaves.
I’ll keep ’em coming until someone utters “Uncle!’. :-0

The Trilliums are beautiful, and the Quadrillium’s unusual. Now, it’s got to be on to the Quintrillium! Wouldn’t that be something? It’s probably unlikely, but no matter. The color and design of even these standard issue flowers are lovely.

GoBotany says “three or more leaves” so it is possible, I guess. You can be sure to hear about it here should I happen upon one. While I am happy to have the white-flowered trilliums in my small woods it would be a thrillium to have one of these painted species…or more. (Surprisingly, spell check didn’t try to correct “thrillium”.)

Delightful! I would never get bored by these…. It’s such a treat to see these beauties again, some thing I haven’t seen since I left the wooded areas of upstate New York nearly a decade ago.

Thanks, Carol. I’ll see what I can do to put that to the test. 🙂

Painted trilliums are beautiful but Painted Quadrilliums are exciting too – great find!

It’s nice to find a rarity once i a while. I found another oddity the same day but haven’t processed it yet.

This is my most favorite flower I’ve never seen. It’s on my bucket list, but my time is running out. For years I wanted to photograph the painted bunting, I got that last year in Florida. For years I wanted to swim with the manatees, I got that this year in Florida. Painted trillium I hope I live that long. Keep them coming.

I am sorry it has evaded you so far, Don. The two bucket items you have managed are not on my accomplished list so you are ahead of me there. I hope you do get to see a live Painted Trillium but you can be sure to see more here. If you feel like it you can do a search of the blog and find the many I have posted over the years.

I am kind of obsessed with Bernadette Peters, Lynn . Enjoy. 😀
I didn’t shoot as many this year as I might have. At some point I don’t know what else to do in the way of composition so rest on my laurels, I guess.
