10.26.2021 Autumn on Mount Pollux

This is what I was waiting for when I made the Moon in Maple shot this past Saturday.  Although the color in the sky did not materialize the sun illuminating the bare apple and distant foliage was  the picture in my mind’s eye.

We are receiving some rain from a Nor’easter today into tomorrow with the possibility of strong winds so much of our foliage may drop and fly away. In many places the color is already passed as we approach November.

  2. I get a feeling of circular cloud movement in the upper left of the picture.

It’s easy to ‘see’ the wind moving up, over, and across the mountains: a movement emphasized by the structure of the foreground tree.

    • The mountain range, unusual for its east-west orientation, shuttles clouds north or south and quite often leaves us in a weather valley where rain or snow passes us as the storms get divided. But sometimes they slide over the ridges, rising and falling in an action like you describe.

This overview of autumn could not be more complete in your photo, Steve. The fantastic swirling sky, the colorful trees in the distance, and the bare apple tree and waning grass in the foreground. The light is also superb.

Another one of your great landscape photos that look like an impressionistic painting, Steve!

Nice composition, Steve. I agree that this storm will probably put a quick end to what’s left of the foliage. Stick season ahead!
