10.25.2021 Moody Monday-Bow Brook

I’ve shot this scene several times and it has appeared here a few of those.  I really enjoy the lay of the land and the draw into the distance, especially on a foggy morning.

Bow Brook flows out of North Spectacle Pond and then behind us where it enters a swamp, feeding both South Spectacle and Bassett Ponds  From Bassett it then flows into Quabbin Reservoir.

Combined with their reflection, the leaning trees really do hold center stage, and add some dynamism.

Just like a road or a rail track narrows at the distance so here the pond with the trees on each side creates a three-dimensional effect and lends depth to the picture.

Nice scene, esp. in the fog. Looks like great beaver habitat!

  7. Were you standing in the brook to take this picture?

An elderly friend pointed out some years ago that the word brook has been falling out of use. Google’s Ngram viewer supports that claim throughout the 20th century, though there’s been a slight upturn in frequency in this century:

This does look familiar, but still very appealing. I can see some of what might keep you coming back. It’s a great scene, and as you said it works really well with the fog.
