Another day, another overcast sky. Fortunately, in this location the hemlocks and pines are taller than the deciduous trees so I was able to crop the panorama and eliminate the white sky.

Because of the detail here, I was more selective in my overlaps using 10 frames to capture the view. Rule of thumb is 1/3 but I did 1/2 to be sure Lightroom had all it needed to do a good job. While a mirror-like reflection is always nice, I like the abstract feel of the ripples in the water.

Now that’s an excellent and colorful panorama. I hate shooting into white skies, so I’m glad the tall hemlocks and pines let you eliminate that unwanted white.

It was fortunate to have those evergreens for upper and lower borders. I try for lower or higher angles when I can but that wasn’t an option here…unless I climbed a tree.

What I have to know is — in that experience of the forest primeval, were the pines murmuring? Some of the hemlocks surely were bearded with moss, given their garments of green.

There was a nice whispering wind on my side of the reservoir, probably on the other side too, which contributed to the ripples which were much more obvious to the right. The other side where we are looking is where I often photograph lady’s slippers in May and there is some old man lichen, sometimes called a moss, in the trees,

Very nicely done! It’s really interesting how the colorful trees are spread out. And any ripples in the water certainly does work in this one. I think I would have enjoyed either way. 🙂

Thanks, Todd. The color is what this about so ripples or not I did the job. 🙂 Sometimes I prefer them over mirror-like surfaces for the effect they have on the reflection as in this shot.

Thanks! I’ve shot here before but this was the first time I attempted a pano at this location. It happened more because I couldn’t decide where to cut it off so just included the whole shoreline. 🙂
