10.04.2021 Clouds in the sky, clouds in the valley

After striking out Friday morning looking for a nice sunrise in New Salem overlooking North Quabbin, I decided to give it another shot Saturday. It’s been a while since I made a nice sunrise image locally so I was quite pleased with how this turned out.

It’s actually brighter if you click through to the full size image.ย  The town of New Salem cuts the trees and shrubs at the edge of the drop from where I was standing otherwise this view would disappear.ย  But they are starting to encroach so maybe soon. I’ve never ID’d the hill that is surrounded by fog so there’s a job to do.

So: you’re saying you might take another peek at that nameless peak?

    • Cute. You betcha! As you might recognize, I have shared this view a few times. I did try once to find its name with an app on the iPhone called Peak Finder but apparently this is a hill not a mountain (although most all the hills in the Quabbin area are Mount something) and the app did not recognize it.

The fog adds a nice effect against the gorgeous sky above.

  5. Definitely a great sunrise. If New Salem quits its trimming, you may be able to hang on with (and to) a ladder for a while.

    • It was a pleasant surprise. I bought a 5 foot step stool to carry around for such an occasion and have cargo racks on top of the Forester should I ever want to impersonate Ansel.

You make a beautiful photograph from this view, so the step stool and cargo racks may be a very good investment for the future!

      • I have done that a few times in the past. But now getting up there is a bit harder and I’d need a ladder to get on the step stool. Fortunately the are some very large rocks near the edge that I do stand on. My tripod goes quite a bit taller (@7 feet) than I am so anything I can use to get higher helps. Thanks, Ann!

Always interesting seeing how the clouds frame some of those small hills that we might otherwise overlook.
