Some behaviors appear cross-species. I have a young gray squirrel that gives me exactly that look. In squirreldom, it translates as, “Where’s my pecan?”

I once delivered a chair to someone near the store. As I opened the door to leave a squirrel was sitting on the porch and looking like he would come in. When I mentioned it to the homeowner she said to just hold the door for him. In he came, hopped upon the sofa, then the end table where she kept his ration of peanuts.
