I just had a few moments yesterday for photography so went to the localest wildlife refuge, the Silvio O. Conte National Fish and Wildlife Refuge in Hadley. It is actually quite large, spanning the length of the Connecticut River from Vermont to Connecticut.
I walked a part of the refuge I had not before and found the textures of the leaves to be attractive and photogenic.

We have four or five Sagittaria species in my area, but I have to cross Galveston Bay or head into east Texas to find this one. ‘Broadleaf’ certainly suits it, and those broad leaves allowed for a pleasing photo. I recently found sagittata used as a species name for our salt marsh morning glory; the same arrowhead shape of the leaf gives a clue to its identity.

I am glad that this is another we have in common…albeit at a distance for you. Every once in a while I catch wind of a species I’d like to photograph that requires some travel although crossing a bay is a bit more than what I generally have to deal with.

I always find it fascinating to see so many examples of geometric shapes and patterns that nature creates in leaves flowers and so many other objects. Your textured leaf with its veins radiating outward is another such fine example, Steve

This is such a satisfying picture to look at – the strong lines and patterns of the leaf, the luminosity of the paler green against the dark one and then those water drops too. Delightful!
