From a distance I thought a bee or other insect occupied the center of the photograph.

How far do you sit from your display? I wasn’t 100% sure of what it was at first glance in the meadow either.

I sit a couple of feet back. I think my first glimpse of the picture was in the e-mail version, where it would have been smaller than the blog version.

The shapes and textures, and even the ‘colours’, are really nice!

Thanks, Liz. It is nice in color but I thought black and white suited it better.

Yes it’s the b&w that I mean, especially the mature leaves, such a nice matte grey, reminds me of slate!

I like the way the other leaves frame the little frond in the centre – looks very protective!

I spent some time trying to compose the best relation between the leaves. Glad that you like my choice, Ann. Thanks!

I like the composition, but you know me — I prefer the colored version. The tiny leaves in the middle are a delightful contrast, though, and probably wouldn’t show up as well in color. There’s always a trade-off!

Actually they stand out in color also. I just had black and white in my mind so stuck with it.
A quick run through to show you.
