After shooting the two images that I posted on Silentish Sunday of the sunrise on South Maple Street I was planning to climb up a local mountain looking for some yellow lady’s slippers. On the way I drove by the South Congregational Church in South Amherst and saw a second possibility for sunrise. I don’t think I’ve ever shot two in one day with the possible exception of maybe at Acadia, first atop Cadillac and then at the shore below. Maybe.
I guess you can tell I kind of like this one. 🙂
I did end up on the mountain but took the wrong trail and finished tired and without the yellow lady’s slipper shot. I’ll have another chance elsewhere, I think. But it was certainly a rewarding morning.
Delightful to get two sunrises Steve. Sad about the slippers .. perhaps you were too early for the yellow lady and she hadn’t shed her slippers 🙂

Thanks, Liz. No, it was all me. I was looking because some friends told me about them and sent a picture. I found them last year but tried a short cut this time and took a turn too soon.

Some shortcuts end up being very long cuts.

It would only have been a long cut had I made it to my intended subject which, sadly, I did not.

Wow, a real bonus day there, Steve. This one is lovely!
Long cuts sometimes have their own rewards, even if the slipper isn’t found.

Thanks, Ellen. More like a pleasant distraction as I didn’t go out of my way. 🙂 Thanks. I was and am very pleased with it. I may find the slipper this weekend…they last a while.

It happens to us often that we go out to search for one thing and find something else perhaps even more beautiful. Your sunrise photo is superb, Steve.

Thanks, Peter. That is so true and why many folks go out with no intended subject. I am easily distracted.

Definitely a view that deserves to be framed and put up on a wall!

You already did it virtually, Steve.

Indeed. I won’t even need to get a frame, I can 3-D print this one. 🙂

Wow! Do you have access to a 3-D printer?

Just sayin’…not doin’. 🙂 Just an Epson Surecolor P800. I am able to mat and frame though.

I like this for three reasons: the more subtle starburst, the variety among the foreground trees, and the way the clouds have left a little ‘open space’ to let the trees stand out even more. It’s a lovely image. Intention is great, but serendipity rocks.

Indeed serendipity does. Some of my favorites have been unexpected happenings. Many photographers go out with no predetermined goal and take what comes their way. I do set out with an intention but never let that stop me from being distracted and following an entirely different direction…and I am easily distracted.
I have not figured out why some of my starbursts have clean rays and others are more broad or doubled. One of these days I’ll send the 16-35 which is the one I use most for sunrises, in to Canon Service, and see if it needs calibration.

As well you should like it, Steve, it’s a beauty. Good looking trees.

Thanks, Jane! This is behind a church and they manage it well. I’ve not seen it happen, but since there are benches I think they hold sunrise services there.

Double the pleasure. I can see why you kind of like that one.
