One of my favorite trees in the North Quabbin area. I’ve photographed this location several times including autumn which is quite the opposite of this.
The feeling this morning was just as reserved as it appears although the camera did not exactly capture it that way.
That white-bark tree really stands out in your monochrome treatment. The Eve over here isn’t ever monochrome.

Standing out was the idea. It’s the only birch in that spot and all the evergreens help.

Your eye for composition is excellent as always! Beautiful. π

The birch tree with its magnificent reflection in the calm lake is the centrepiece of your photo. Great shot, Steve!

As I wished it to be, Peter. I love that birch and probably will make a few more shots of it over time. Thank you.
Spellcheck in Windows 10 is funny. Birch is a well known tree and common enough, yet Spellcheck wants me to replace the r with a t…probably shouldn’t do that.

Thanks, Rob! I’ve shot this tree many times but think this is my favorite…so far. π

It’s an interesting reflection. It almost looks pixelated.

There was a slight breeze over the water. The trees are sharp here, but when focusing at 10x one could see the catkins blowing around a bit.

I can see why this is a favorite tree. It stands out so nicely, and with that reflection… fantastic! π

Thanks, Todd. I am drawn to birch trees generally but when one is featured like this I have to shoot it and have done so several times.

Really nice reflection with that bright tree acting as the main subject. I am judging reflections for a camera club this month so I will give you a 9 … that’s the highest score!

Thanks, Denise. I am chuffed. π No one ever gets a 10? π I noticed the tree once as I glanced away from the road while driving past and made a quick stop. Since then I try to photograph it in the different seasons. The water is often more choppy as the wind goes through here pretty hard but I was lucky that this day it was fairly calm.

No, in the competition I am judging no one ever gets a 10.

Oh, a very tough judge. π Truth is though that every image could be better. Even Adams was always improving his work.

Not my rule but thatβs the idea. One of the 9s is awarded Judges Choice in each category.

It does look familiar – lovely black and white!

Thank you, Lynn. It will look even more familiar the next time I shoot and post it. π
