I am always happy to find these and this particular bunch makes a nice natural bouquet.

Aren’t they though? As interesting a flower for their shape, I love the mix of white and yellow, much like our daffodils this year.

There were many to choose from but I think these were the better of the bunch.

They are one plant that I look forward to although there are several others. But I really enjoy these for their shape and color. Thanks, Eliza!

Yes, they make lovely plants even after the flowers have faded.

Like some others, I’m taken with the foliage, too. I like the ferniness of the leaves as much as the interesting shape of the flowers.

In a way very much like peonies. Peony flowers are gorgeous, and sometimes fragrant, but what also makes them attractive are the leaves which do bear some resemblance to these Dicentras…or the other way around.

I remember when I first saw these and learned the name on a nature walk decades ago. You have absolutely captured their most delightful qualities in this terrific photo!

Thanks, Carol. It is a funny name that causes some to chuckle, or wonder what you are talking about, but much more fun to say than Dicentra cucullaria. 🙂

There is a similarly shaped species in the same genus called Squirrel Corn that I have yet to photograph. This is one of the first flowers I look for every spring. Thanks again, Denise!

And I like how you see the way the buds open in this picture, plus the tiny raindrops on the leaf tips. That makes me remember learning about “drip tips” – leaves that are shaped so that they shed water, something prevalent in tropical plants but not so much in desert plants. 🙂
