I visited the spot where I usually shoot these yesterday morning. I was hoping for some sign of early spring but nothing doing. It was cold, breezy, overcast, and threatening to rain at any moment. I guess you could say it was early April showers.
Pretty soon though.
This is from 2011 and I probably posted it previously. It works much better in black and white which allows for separation from the mossy background. Were I shooting this today I’d do a better job with the highlights which, even after some serious attempts at correction, still are a little blown out, especially at the top of the bud.

Thanks, Denise. I’ve been surprised at times how well even colorful flowers do in monochrome. It definitely changes the emphasis of the photograph.

It is indeed, Gary. Some overlooked images get new life and often I learn a little bit about improving on future images. Getting better is a lifelong exercise.

Feeling the pull of spring, yet it’ll come in its own sweet time. 🙂 I love how looking back we can learn from our previous work. On the other side, though, I’ll bet most folks would never notice the blown highlights, seeing instead the beauty in the image.

For a little while recently it seemed spring had sprung but the last few days have seen a chill return. Any day now though. You are correct about the observations of others. Often we are troubled by an image’s shortcomings where others don’t even notice them.

I like the contrast between the clarity of the drop and the satiny look of the bud. The bud itself reminds me of frosted glass, and the shape recalls Art Nouveau lamps. It’s a lovely photo, just as is.
