On Wednesday I did the unusual and tried to catch a sunset lighting clouds over the Connecticut River but most were on the horizon and they only blocked the sun… clouds got in my way. I tried again this evening but with the same result. On the way home I stopped across from a favorite oak tree on Moody Bridge Road, which you might have seen here before at sunrise, and noticed that the clouds were catching a little bit of nice light as they blew across the sky.
Not a total disappointment. Now I am focused on the setting full moon over the river tomorrow morning. We’ll see how that goes.
The peachy-pink of the clouds is especially nice, but I confess I like the moody blues, too.

Who doesn’t like the Moody Blues? I was quite happy with the soft color captured by the clouds, especially after tossing in the towel for sunset over the river. I actually think this makes a better shot than my original plan.

I noticed those pink puffies at sunset tonight and the moon is pretty nice right now as well. Hope the scene unfolds perfectly for you tomorrow morning!

The moonset didn’t work out, user error, but it was still a nice morning. I did see the moon on this evening flitting between the clouds.

One should never give, especially not in photography, Steve. That is a very impressive photo. “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.”

I am generally pretty patient and persistent. And just being there is a reward in itself. Thanks, Peter.

“A little bit of nice light” is a bit of an understatement, I’d say. What a glorious glow.

I prefer understatement. It was especially nice as it was unexpected…hoped for but unexpected.

Lovely. I used to love watching the effect of sunset on the clouds as a kid – we had a view of a huge expanse of sky and there were usually some clouds about. (A case of every cloud having a pink, orange or gold lining!)

As long as there is some lining then all is good, right? 🙂

That oak tree seems to be opening her branches to the splendor of blue, peach and pink adorning the sky. Nicely done, Steve.

Thanks, Lori! I like the idea of the tree spreading her branches.
