I visited this spot on Sunday but got there too late and the sun was creating some washed out highlights. I went back yesterday and made a few images. There are Rosa multiflora brambles protruding into a wider view so I zoomed in on the most interesting part.
This is the closer section to my position. Last summer I shared this composition of the farther end which yesterday was mostly ice.
I like the glint of light and hint of color reflected in the upper cascade.
I agree with you about that glint of light. In a different realm, I’ve valued a similar sheen on certain parts of plants, especially Clematis drummondii.

I usually try to not have sunlight hitting the water but in this case it was happily unavoidable.

“Happily unavoidable” is a good phrase.

That’s an unusual, and yet familiar, color. I couldn’t quite place it, but I finally remembered the pair of satin heels I had dyed to match my senior prom dress. It had yellow roses and leaves scattered across it, and the leaves were just that color. I suspect “dyed satin heels” isn’t a phrase that’s going to be uttered by any of this year’s seniors.
In your photo, the smoothness and color of the cascade are a nice contrast to the globular ice on the left.

I’m always happy to have textural contrasts in an image.
You’re right about the likelihood but from your description I’d say it would be their loss. I definitely would have been proud to have been your date with these shoes.

It is refreshing to see water in motion again and no longer locked in as it seems in eternal ice. Spring is near. Your photo tells me that, Steve.

Thanks, Peter. Yes, spring approacheth. We’re having a brief cold snap now but all the signs are there including returning robins.

Yes, there are around here too. I even saw a hummingbird zipping by.

It will be a while before we see hummingbirds here. They usually don’t show up until May. If it is warm enough maybe we might see a few in April.

We must have a hardier variety.

Very nice Steve! Loved the different “bumps” of movement!

Thanks, Reed. Yes, I like waterfalls made up of cascades a bit more than one long drop.

The light is lovely – it brings a feeling of life to the image and makes it sparkle.

Thanks, Ann! I ordinarily am not looking to have bright highlights in a water image but certainly am happy about this one.

Thanks, Ann-Christine. Full of life definitely is a description we like for our images especially as this year has passed us by.
