    This seems to be the winter of the grandest icicles I have seen, Steve. The variety in shapes and forms is truly amazing.

      We got off to a slow start here, Peter, with warmer temperatures than usual as well as low flowing brooks and rivers. But the last few months have made up for the scarcity of rushing water and good ice from early winter.

    The bit of solid white encased in the ice above the ripply parts reminds me of an insect encased in amber.

    Very interesting how pure it looks towards the top but how it gets more complicated towards the tip with all those fascinating reflections/refractions. Another nice find.

      It’s funny how these form as the water recedes and drips from above as well. Sometimes they can be quite similar in shape and other quite varied. Makes finding them quite a bit of fun. Thanks, Todd!

    I see a figure here, eager to be recognized and appreciated. It’s the bottom eighth or so of the icicle, starting just below that lateral jellyfish-like refraction. It’s sort of like a pudgy, benevolent figure that could be a part of an icy totem pole. I like it very much.
