but I did get what I needed.
I had hoped for a better sky but I was still happy to be standing at Enfield Lookout in Quabbin Park and enjoying this familiar view of Mount Monadnock in New Hampshire. It’s a sight I never tire of even on gloomy dark days. All those layered hills and the mountain rising above makes the drive over well and wait at the gate worth it.
Even on a grey day one can take great photos, Your amazing landscape picture shows this fact, Steve!

I’m sure I’ve mentioned before that blue and brown have been especially appealing to me this year, and your photo’s combination of those colors is a nice variation on the theme. The color of the trees is the color of much of our landscape just now, thanks to our below-freezing temperatures. Your natural browns are more pleasing.

By the color wheel, blue and yellow are complementary but just as with breaking that old rule of dress about green and blue, other combinations work. Red, yellow, and blue make brown so it all makes sense that you find the combination attractive.

With a view like that I think I understand some of your feelings about it. Beautiful layers. How long does the drive there take?

It’s not really that long a drive…about 20+ minutes. The issue is that the ranger who opens the gates is often late and the time I went before this she didn’t show up for over a half hour after opening time so a bunch of us left disappointed. This day she was a few minutes early for a change but I never saw color in the sky on the way over so it didn’t make a difference.

Love the incredible, seemingly endless layers! Wouldn’t they have been diminished if the sky had been clear and blue!?

They would have for sure but I’d have made a different composition. I’ve posted quite a few from this spot such as this one from a few years ago.

I’d say that, after standing in line with Mr. Jimmy, you got your prescription filled.

My favorite color, cherry red…well muted red/brown. Thankfully, the places I go rarely have a line or any other photographer for that matter. I don’t like uninvited company when I shoot and often just pass a spot by if someone is already there.
