The lower central portion looks like it might have something to do with amphibian reproduction.

It does look similar to an egg mass. The one with a tail resembles a sperm.

If they hatch, will they be icicles? 🙂

I always enjoy seeing iridescence in your ice photos; here the colors, contained within the more solid white rim, remind me of the inside of a shell.

When I capture the iridescence I feel very fortunate to have found it. It certainly adds a quality that is appealing. It’s a bit more subtle here than in other shots but a little goes a long way.

I was thinking more fractal ~ this is a gorgeous abstract composition.

When it comes to ice, fractal is factual.

This makes me smile because It’s like something you’d see in a documentary about the beginning of life. (I guess I’m with Eliza, but Steve’s take is pretty funny). Or maybe it’s a reflection of that complex mind in there! Whatever the case, it’s an impressive and beautiful image!

It isn’t a reflection of my mind, that’s for sure. I like both interpretations. This is one of my favorite ice abstracts for both the color and the design. Glad you like it too, Lynn.

Beautiful. Reminds of the ponds I used to skate on in my youth.

Thanks, Carol! Those must have been beautiful ponds.

They definitely were. I hate to admit that when we saw ice formations like this, we loved to destroy them with the blades of our skates. Such is childhood. 🙂

Although I did not skate, I did stomp on my share of ice covered puddles.
