Just the oak leaves retain a bit of ruddiness in this otherwise monochrome foggy landscape at Atkins Reservoir in North Amherst.
I would have preferred a slightly thicker fog to hide the posts in the background but otherwise like the sense of quiet.
Foggy here in Nova Scotia..great image.

Thanks. It’s often foggy there is it not?

Speaking as someone with a more-that-nine-years-old blog, I wouldn’t want to hide any of my posts in the background, and look forward to others yet to come. One of those a week from now will include a photograph in which I’ve deliberately reduced the color; you got reduced color in a natural way, via fog. As for the wooden posts in your picture, did you consider using a digital eraser?

They’re concrete so hard to remove. Not really as this is a well-known location in town and the posts would be obviously missing. Add to that that I really don’t like doing that with things I couldn’t physically remove myself. Beer cans, fallen branches, and other types of things I will try remove by hand and usually only digitally if getting to them is dangerous like at the bottom of a waterfall. Blown up there is also some sort of structure barely visible below the dam that I think is reinforcement for the berm.
Sometimes I will reduce saturation if it seems over the top whether it really looked that way or not.

I wouldn’t worry too much about those posts. Even after you mentioned them, I had to search to find them.

could not see them…for my part.

I had never realised the reflection in water was not impacted by the fog.
Very inspiring picture…

It is but the fog gets thicker as there is more distance so appears thin closer.

There’s nothing like tranquility toi calm our mood and relax us. Glad it did that for you, Melissa. Thanks!

I like this a lot – I thought it was B&W until it opened up on my screen, and I like the very muted, subtle colors. The posts don’t seem bothersome in the slightest.

At first glance on site I thought black and white. But once viewing it on the camera’s back I loved the slight bit of color. A test conversion convinced me that keeping the color worked better. Thanks, Robert.

I think that the touch of colour really draws me into the photograph. There’s a wonderful air of mystery here and a feeling of closeness to nature.

Nice one, Steve. I didn’t even notice the guardrails until you mentioned them. I was busy looking at the reflections in the water. 😉

Thanks, Eliza! I often tell myself to be quiet about things and maybe no one will notice but then decide to open my big mouth. 🙂

I think that bit of ruddiness really adds something to this one. Very subtle, but it stands out nicely. Really nice composition, as well, and I love the water movement and what it does to the reflections. Sometimes I love still water and perfect reflections, but this one is a perfect example of how fantastic some water movement can be.

Thanks, Todd. I actually never considered a long exposure for this. The gentle ripples held my attention softening the reflection.

Both the gentle ruddiness and the ripples help to bring this together. I don’t think it would be as effective with either of these elements missing.

Thanks, Gary. Honestly I didn’t think of the ripples as a composition element but knew they were there.

Nice job capturing the mood! Some may have tried to boost the contrast but then the foggy feeling would have been lost. The histogram in foggy images doesn’t have a black black or white white.

Thanks, Denice. Yeah, exposing to the right doesn’t fit every image. That said, I did raise the whites in LR and reduce the clarity a touch to be sure the mood wasn’t lost.

Opps! Sorry about that typo, Denise! I am sure that you are nice though. 🙂
