10.14.2020 Wordless Wednesday-Quabbin Hill Foliage at Sunrise

I like this perspective, and the two forms of clouds streaming through the sky. I’d title it “The March of October” — the trees seem to have topped the hill before heading down its side to do who-knows-what to anyone who tries to stop them.

The clouds on the right have something of a gentle mammatus quality. It’s fun to imagine the trees marching, like the ents.

Ents occur to me very often while in the woods, Gary. I have always thought of trees as sentient beings and feel very comfortable amongst them.

The slope of the hill and layout did make me wonder if the image would be successful. Other positions introduced things that would have distracted. I’ve shot these before so had a good idea of where to stand but the trees do seem to be running off to the left. I like your title suggestion. They do seem to be on the move.

This strikes me as different from the other pictures you’ve shown.

I try for different when possible. Not sure what you mean though. Looking uphill?

I had trouble figuring out what seemed different to me about this picture. Maybe the uphill view is a part of it, and maybe also the clouds.

Love the sky drama! Loving the fall colors these days, too.

Thanks, Eliza. The foliage is hanging on longer than I expected which is not a complaint. 🙂

I particularly like the how the rising sun illuminates portions of the scene more than others. One can imagine being there and watch the sun gradually bathe everything in light.

I am glad that you perceive that, Tanja. That is very much as I experienced it and waited for the amount of illumination I wished for. It did get brighter of course but I prefer gentle light when I can get it.
