While on Mount Pollux I had fun running around to all the milkweed seed displays. This was my favorite.
The word that came to mind unbidden was “dramatic.”

That works for me. Thanks, Steve.

I’ve missed the milkweed in our garden in Omaha. In your photo here, the four seed heads lined up in perfect array make this a really special shot.

Thanks, Gary. I saw this from about 15 feet away and made a beeline for it.

Ready to fly (after yesterday’s wind, probably long gone!)

I imagine so. Some of ours are still clinging to the dried hulls but most are gone.

A very nice composition. The pod looks like old, weathered metal.

Thanks. I was thinking leather but I can see the metal comparison too.

Yes. The image pleased me so much, but I have so many words competing in my head that none come out.

Your running around was well rewarded! I’m hoping for some nice fluffy seed heads on my Japanese anemones…will have a while to wait yet. (Even better if they get frosted or snowed upon.)

I paid for it too. The milkweed was mixed in with a lot of thorny rose brambles and I have a few scratches to show for it. 🙂 Better but not yet, thank you. 🙂

Ow, ow ow! You have my sympathy over the scratches!

What a great shot, Steve. Love the dark palette which highlights the white floss. The anticipation is killing me! 🙂

Thanks, Jane. I hope your neighborhood is coming back. Lots of lost foliage. What remains I hope puts on a show for you. 🙂

The colors are interesting. I usually see ours in shades of green and brown. The metallic sheen is lovely, and the blues and grays are especially appealing.

I did not see it as metallic at all but now I am getting the idea of a metal’s aged patina the more I look at it. I had thought leather. Probably the blue is coming from the sky as ours are green then brown also. But everything was dewy and may have been reflecting the sky overhead.

Just like you’re in a museum, right? 🙂 I like the coyness of this, like a dancer posing with a fan. The pod texture, the drops on the fluff and even the individual seeds are all so clear, it’s beautiful.

Thanks, Lynn. The fan display was what immediately attracted me to this one pod. I have to say that it kind of ruined all the others for me. 🙂
