09.10.2020 Colorful Foliage Ground Beetle

One of the many visitors to our Boneset-Eupatorium perfoliatum, I just saw this beetle once but will surely recognize it if I ever see it again. Pretty hard to forget…the beetle, I am perfectly capable of forgetting the name.

Green-winged Lebia-Lebia viridipennis

What a great insect attractor is Boneset.

I really enjoy these metallic beetles — and the bees, too. This one’s especially attractive.

    • They are gorgeous. Although I do not support collecting them for profit, Christopher Marley has an extensive network of collectors and an amazing offering of species. Someone gave me his book a number of years ago. The insect world is filled with amazing specimens. I am not happy about the number of insects he is responsible for removing from the environment.

I agree with shoreacres, I also really like the metallic insects, and green seems such a great color for them. It’s especially interesting with this one, given its body color.

    • I love finding metallic beetles but don’t come across very many. I guess this was a lucky find. A FB friend who is very active in the local entomology field said this was her first knowledge of one in our county.
