This looks like what I saw along the shore of Lake Wakatipu in New Zealand, about which you commented: “Rocks can often offer lots of pleasing abstracts such as the ones you’ve shared. Acadia has a few nice shoreline areas with polished beach stones with nice color too.” Did you take this picture at Acadia?

Yes, at Acadia…Little Hunter Beach.

So the hunter didn’t return empty-handed.

This calls to mind the old-fashioned rock candy I loved: sweets that replicated perfectly the appearance of stones. These have the sheen that rain or waves provide, and it’s lovely.

Yes, and that same rock candy would damage your teeth just like a mouthful of actual stones. Good observation. These were still wet from the tide which receded a short time before I made my images there. It’s an appealing effect that moisture plays upon colorful stones.

I love pebbles like these … made to be picked up and examined.

Yes and a lot of people must do that and then forget to put them back as the park has a sign asking folks to not take them away with them. I was pretty happy to take away pictures. 🙂

My, those are some fine-looking beach cobbles. 🙂

Just as enjoyable as their appearance is the sound they make as the waves roll them around. Even on a day with poor light hearing them is worth the time spent.

Oh, I love that sound! There’s one particular beach here with stones that are just the right size, and a pitch to the beach that’s just right (not that it could be wrong). The sound when the waves go back and forth and roll the stones around is heaven.

I never think to do a video while at this beach but maybe next year…I hope. 🙂

A gorgeous collection of well-worn abstractions. Seashore or riverbed?

Seashore. This is one of two beaches, Hunters and Little Hunters, that I visit every time at Acadia N.P. for the cobbles. For obvious reasons, I missed them this year, at least to this point. Not sure about next year the way things are going here. I think most travel is on the back burner until there is a proven reliable vaccine for the virus.

Whenever the opportunity arises to explore a new seashore, lakeshore, or riverbed, I’m always looking down at the details, and I love what you’ve seen in this one.

I feel the sea and the waves that has made these stones round and soft!

The sea is constantly changing all that it touches. I am glad you enjoyed this, Minna.
