I mentioned noticing some other icicles on the way in at Dean Brook. I decided to work them on the way out after seeing what else waited further down stream. I waited because I knew the composition would require wading into the middle of the water and figured it made sense to save it for the end in case the boots took on water. They did not, but it was a good plan anyway.
I made exposures from farther back but the icicles were smaller than I intended so zoomed closer. These were a little different than the previous post as not only are they shaped less bat-like 🙂 but are just touching the water.
You’re still on a roll. The gray-haired water seems especially well rendered this time.

Hmmm…a message maybe. First about falling on my butt and now a reference to my gray hair. A balding comment will round out the trio. 🙂
I did try a few different exposures at various apertures and ISOs. I think a couple of them work well but this one struck me both for the rendering of the water and the impact of the icicles. Thanks, Steve.

No, no message intended here. The gray hair is the stream’s rather than yours, and no third member of a corporeal trio is forthcoming—at least not from me.

I know. Just having fun at my expense.

The stick holds a lot of interest as well. Nice!

Thanks. Yes, I tried to highlight both the stick and the icicles.

Instead of icicles hanging down, I saw a pair of ice-hands emerging from the water to lift up the piece of wood: an offering to the great ice gods, perhaps?

I hadn’t really thought of that (I say that often, don’t I?) but especially the one on the right does look like a hand at the top.

And the ice gods have been kind to me this year.

Absolutely, staggeringly good, Stephen. Give me a second while I try to lift my jaw up….

Beautifully done, Steve, with a lot of detail and movement captured. I am glad you didn’t get any icy water in your boots! What we do for a photo, eh? 🙂

Thanks, Pete. I’ve had more than my share of ice water in boots so am glad that this pair is finally water tight.

A great ensemble, earrings and gray silk, for a fancy dance. It’s fun to see the varied comments here, too.

Ear rings is another good one, Robert. Thanks for adding that to the interpretations.

The contrast between the icicles and the moving water really makes the shot! Lucky that you have good boots… 🙂

Thanks, Ann. I was quite happy to have the cascade below the icicles. This pair and another, similar to Wellies, were sold as water tight but I had to finish the deal for them to keep my feet dry.
