03.03.2020-2 Hangers On or in this case Hangers Over

I mentioned noticing some other icicles on the way in at Dean Brook.  I decided to work them on the way out after seeing what else waited further down stream. I waited because I knew the composition would require wading into the middle of the water and figured it made sense to save it for the end in case the boots took on water.  They did not, but it was a good plan anyway.

I made exposures from farther back but the icicles were smaller than I intended so zoomed closer. These were a little different than the previous post as not only are they shaped less bat-like 🙂 but are just touching the water.

  1. You’re still on a roll. The gray-haired water seems especially well rendered this time.

    • Hmmm…a message maybe. First about falling on my butt and now a reference to my gray hair. A balding comment will round out the trio. 🙂
I did try a few different exposures at various apertures and ISOs. I think a couple of them work well but this one struck me both for the rendering of the water and the impact of the icicles. Thanks, Steve.

The stick holds a lot of interest as well. Nice!

Instead of icicles hanging down, I saw a pair of ice-hands emerging from the water to lift up the piece of wood: an offering to the great ice gods, perhaps?

  6. Beautifully done, Steve, with a lot of detail and movement captured. I am glad you didn’t get any icy water in your boots! What we do for a photo, eh? 🙂

  7. A great ensemble, earrings and gray silk, for a fancy dance. It’s fun to see the varied comments here, too.

The contrast between the icicles and the moving water really makes the shot! Lucky that you have good boots… 🙂
