02.25.2020-2 Leaf in Winter’s Suspended Animation

I went looking for early skunk cabbages yesterday and did find some.  But this ice encased leaf caught my attention and I made a couple of exposures.  At first I was disappointed that the polarizer couldn’t eliminate all the reflected highlights, but after processing I decided that I am glad they are there.  Just a little different from my usual way of photographing ice.

Although it was frozen, the water seems to have some flow to it.  The skunk cabbages will follow soon.

  3. I really like the pebble finish. It does look like old art glass.

It looks remarkably like pebbled leather, aka Scotch grain. Pebbled leather’s quite water resistant; apparently it’s used quite often for shoes in Britain. Some pebbled leather boots with that pattern would be really attractive.

    • Pebbled leather sounds attractive although I haven’t seen it as far as I am aware. Most of mine are a combination of leather and fabric or rubber. I’ve seen boots with patterns that could employ this leaf motif so that combination would be nice, I think.

This is a great catch, and I think the reflected highlights add to, rather than detract from, the overall artistic effect.

The ice adds a nice, pebbly texture, kind of like a rough, oil print.

I’m with Linda on this one, leather was my first thought. Nice book cover perhaps?
