Just a lovely oyster mushroom in Quabbin.
It was misting yesterday morning and I thought it was worth getting out and seeing whatever I could see.ย Well, it rained fairly hard for a short time and things got pretty wet, but this oyster mushroom was worth seeing. There were several on the trunk but I liked the curl on this one that gave a nice view of the gill structure. I think that it’s most likely a late fall oyster mushroom (Panellus serotinus) because of the time of year but they usually have a bit more color to them, often with some green/blue tinge.
The dark background shows off these mushrooms quite nicely.

Thanks. I tried to make the most of that.

Love fungi, and this is like a multistory tree house!

Ha. I like your description of the tree house, eremophila. Now all we need are some elves setting up housekeeping.

I can’t figure out how to link it here Steve, but on ytube there’s a group called Forest Elves, nice music๐

On YouTube, click “Share” then select embed. Click copy and then paste into a post…if the blog owner allows it. I do, I think. ๐

Thanks Steve, I can do all that stuff easily on my laptop, but that’s out of action at present, and I’m too preoccupied with other things to learn to use my phone or pad properly.?.๐๐ผ

This one works really well. I love how see both the tops of the caps and the gills.

That’s what attracted me to this particular cluster. The tree was covered with them but this stood out. Thanks, Todd.

I came over to get caught up, and giggled. You could have called this group you posted a part of “Multiple Monday.” I know the temptation, though. I need to find a way to do some multiples that will reduce the stack of photos I want to post.
I’m so fond of these mushrooms. These always look to me like Art Deco wall sconces. This one is beautiful, especially the detail of the gills.

I have a tendency to forget images and they don’t get posted in a timely fashion so lately I’ve been doubling up, or tripling, but really should save a few for when a dry spell hits. The same thing happens while I am shooting. Once I am on to another subject the previous one disappears from my consciousness until I download the files. Maybe “Multiple Monday” will become a thing.
These are my favorite mushrooms to photograph besides finding new ones. I like eremophila’s description as a tree house.

Sure looks like an oyster mushroom. ๐ The “normal” ones smell really nice. I didn’t know there was a late fall species – maybe these don’t have the pleasant fragrance. What a gorgeous image! And I’m surprised it’s in this condition after you’ve had snow. Interesting!!

I’d never seen one this late, or rather early, in the year so it was a pleasant surprise. These didn’t have much of an odor but maybe the cold had something to do with that.
