One last image from the wonderful sunrise at New Salem Orchards on the first. Although I liked the wider view for its context, there is still some included here and the way the brightly lit trees tower over and the frosty appearance of the foreground apples really appeals to me.
At any other time in history, I would have titled this “Fire and Ice” but fire isn’t very cute right now.
To my mind this is the best take of all, with yellow and red dominating except in that cool strip across the bottom.

Thanks, Steve. There’s one more of just the tree tops that I haven’t worked with yet.

It is unlike anything i had ever photographed before. I might have pictured it in my head but hadn’t captured anything like it until now.

That it was, Ann. As I waited for the sun to rise I thought something like this might happen but it surpassed my expectations. There were so many other locations I could have visited but am I ever glad I chose this one. Thanks!

That’s a very unusual looking photograph. Fascinating how backlight can affect a scene, especially with that early morning light through the ice.

Backlighting is such a nice effect and I’ve been fortunate in the past with capturing it. But this was definitely the most exciting experience with it I have had. Thanks, Todd.

fantastic scene, and I appreciate the illusion of rosy warmth

Thanks, Robert. Warmth was illusory but it was not as chilly as all the ice might suggest.

It’s surprising that the warmth that seems to emanate from the trees in the background doesn’t melt the layer of ice that coats the ones in the foreground. 🙂

Yes, it does seem like the ice should be melting and water running like a torrent. Fortunately for this photographer that didn’t happen. 🙂

This certainly was an unusual sunrise. I’ve never in my life seen anything like that yellow band across the top, and I never would have expected it, but there it is. That’s quite a capture.

The light does funny things during sunrise and this was an unusual situation altogether. The whole sequence was very cool and I was happy that there was ice accumulated from freezing rain to catch all that warm light.

I’ve seen illuminated ice-coated trees before but never lit up quite this way so it was a real treat while it lasted and I’ve got pictures. 🙂
