10.08.2019 Regulating Dam Road…again

I do repeat myself with a lot of locations.  I find they offer different looks at the right times.  I posted a sunlit richly colored closeup of some of the trees across the water in 2016. This time I liked the look of distance with the sky and it’s reflection dominating the frame.

Although muting the reflection, I enjoyed the wisps of fog floating across the water.

There’s a lovely quality to this photo, the mist and reflected cloud seem to impart a milky look to the water! Love the rich colours too.

  2. What first caught my eye was the ring made by the colorful trees and their reflection.

Wow! I like all the elements you captured. The mist, the color, reflections, and sky. Clouds do make a difference, and time of day as well as the season. Thank you for sharing.

  4. I. Love. This. But you know me: moody sky guy. I would’ve cropped a bit tighter on the vertical top and bottom to get the blue out. But that’s me. This shot is beautiful.

There’s a very gentle, serene feel to this image…like it would be very restorative to spend some time there.

    • It does appear that way, but I was actually straddling a guardrail next to a not terribly busy highway. Yet there is traffic moving at a good speed occasionally. The ground slopes steeply down to the water. But I have clambered down there and walked to the left where it is a bit removed from traffic. Thanks, Ann.

Personally, I’m glad you included the bits of blue: both the sky and the reflection. Without them, the sunlight on the trees would have seemed a little odd. Well, maybe not. But their presence certainly does imply scudding clouds and the movement of light across the scene. The seem to me to give the image more liveliness than it would otherwise have.

    • Soon I will share a foliage image with a dark sky and brilliant sunlight but I do understand what you are saying. As important as the color is to the image, it’s the balance of clouds that attracted my attention and their ability to give the whole image an airy feel. and the addition of a little blue sky does for the clouds what clouds usually do for a blue sky.

Clouds, mist on the water, fall color in the trees- what a recipe! Excellent.
